Artist statement
It took a physical crisis to really get me started at painting and living the dream life of being an artist and searching for my own unique style which funny enough wasn’t really the hardest part. The hardest part is overcoming the reoccurring fear of not being able to start and fail at a piece of work or succeed ecstatically when it turns out amazing. Since being little I am deeply passionate about mountains and trying to get to understand them and be close to them. To me mountains are sacred and God’s way of showing us the power and beauty of the universe in which we live. Mountains have a way of showing us that we really can’t capture them unless we are willing to view them from alle perspective’s possible to come to some sense of truth and sacredness about them.
As a small child I urged my father to tell me when I would be able to see the mountains again, coming from a rather flat country myself. Through my art I want to evoke a sense of wonder and awe in nature’s beauty, so we can experience a sacred place of beauty and oneness. Mountains have a way of reminding us we can only come closer to truth, unless we are willing to capture every angle and perspective possible. Honesty and authenticity are key in my way of working and thinking, therefore I give myself a lot of space which results in quite large paintings. Working from a blank cotton unprimed canvas and on a hard surface gives me just enough encouragement to keep starting new works and overcoming the fear of beginning and having no clue as where it will take me. Painting gives me the opportunity to stop thinking and my heart gets ideas and thoughts I just have to listen to. Most of my works have been exposed to the elements of weather so a big part of the process is about listening and letting go. Because of my strong belief in angels, I always ask them to join me in every work I start, which has let to many divine surprises along the way.
